The XC90 T8 TwinEngine is fitted with with a 2.0 litre petrol engine and an electric motor, which doesn't sound much considering the Volvo weighs almost 2,300kg. However, the powertrain combines to produce a considerable 407hp and 472 lb ft of torque, which allows for some rather rapid progress should the mood take. The 0-62mph acceleration time is despatched in just 5.6 seconds, while in-gear acceleration is equally surprisingly fast thanks to the instant torque available from the electric motor. Power is delivered with a brief pause as you push your foot down before the XC90 T8 TwinEngine kicks all the systems into line and you quickly find yourself going faster than you ought to. Put the Volvo into Power mode and that delay is almost completely eradicated, with only a hesitancy typical of any automatic gearbox as it kicks down a cog or two of the eight available. Power ...
