Automakers Put Billions Into “Connectivity” Tech No One Cares About

Okay automakers, here’s all the work you need to do for in-car entertainment and navigation: 1. Ensure audio gets from a mobile device to the car’s speakers without being butchered by awful compression. (Just a suggestion here: you could stream the media file to the car’s audio system and decompress it there, rather than recompress it with SBC or whatever in the mobile device. Current A2DP methods can be a fall-back mode.) 2. Ensure mobile devices paired with the car have the radio and sensor data they need for navigation and communication – especially if you use glass coatings that are opaque to those frequencies. (Another suggestion: install the same core sensors in the car – GPS, compass and inertial – and work with the SIG and device manufacturers on a new profile for sharing these resources.
