Japan opens door for hydrogen fuel stations: Hydrogen fuelling stations, such as the Toyota hydrogen station pic...

Hydrogen fuelling stations, such as the Toyota hydrogen station pictured, may soon become a more common sight in Japan – after the government decided to ease its regulations on their construction. According to reports in Japanese business daily The Nikkei , it will offer subsidies to companies that are involved in plans to set up 100 sites across the country by 2015. The report suggests that it will revise the High Pressure Gas Safety Act to allow for the construction of hydrogen stations in both commercial and residential areas – currently they can only be built in industrial areas. It is said that 13 companies, including three major automakers and several gas and oil firms, plan to set up more than 100 hydrogen stations across leading Japanese cities such as Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Tokyo.
