Bobby the robot car laps Hockenheimring at near-record speed @GMVolt #cars #racecars
Riding in the Tesla P85D recently allowed the riders to experience autonomous driving. A camera is used with multiple sensors for crash avoidance, automatic lane change with the turn indicator, lane control, speed limit changes (the signs are read from the camera) and full stop if a stopped car is ahead. The system is now being included in all Tesla vehicles and will be improved and expanded with software updates. Since it is used like cruise control, it was mentioned that the driver would manually turn it on after entering the on ramp and turning it off before exiting the off ramp. I have two concerns. Would it make me more drowsy? What dual redundancy is included? Since it is not available as a retrofit, I can let the new purchasers be the testers of what appears to be a great addition to cruise control on the freeways and cross country adventures.
