UK’s low emission future gets a boost from government #greenenergy

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) says the UK’s future as a world leader in the use and development of low emission vehicles has been boosted by the Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) will spend the £500m it has been allocated for the next five years. Although there had been fears that the government would cut incentives for buying electric vehicles and hybrids, the government has set aside £200m to subsidise the Plug-In Car Grant, allowing OLEV to continue offering up to £5,000 off the price of a new ultra-low emission vehicles. The government has also announced £30m will be put by to assist the purchase of “other vehicles”. The research and development sector also received a boost courtesy of a £100m investment, while £56m has been given over to improving the UK’s infrastructure, including the rapid charging network, taxi infrastructure and a gas ...
