GM will loan free cars to Chevy Volt owners who have "fire anxiety"

That said, this should not be blown out of proportion. GM tends to recall cars for engine fires on a regular basis, often in the millions of units. Google "GM Engine Fire" and there are a lot of other investigations and recalls. Usually recalls happen after several years of production, but it also happens on new vehicles. It isn't good press for the Volt, but if the investigation does lead to a recall and the fix is relatively simple, this is something they should be able to overcome. However, If GM is smart, they should try to speed the investigation along and come to a conclusion as soon as possible. Don't fight the investigation and don't just comply, but but proactively work with the agency to help the investigation along and bring it to a close quickly. Using lawyers to drag this out or trying to deny an issue if there is one will only hurt them more in the long run.
