How red light cameras decrease safety, waste fuel and generally frustrate us
My community has several red light cameras, and a handfull of speed cameras in school zones. I just read a article yesterday that the cameras aer actually operating in the red bacause the amount of vehicles tripping the cameras has decreased dramatically. So, there is no revenue being generated for the city (but no cost either, since that's the way these things are contracted) and violations have dropped. No increase in accidents at these intersections either. Sounds like safety has improved to me. Of course, perhaps I live in the one town that is actually operating them honestly, and didn't shorten the yellows (I haven't noticed any short lights). Amazing that maybe it will work IF operated properly.
