Report: Chrysler CEO: natural gas better than electricity to move vehicles, so government should back off

The issue is that natural gas can either be burned in the latest 60% efficient gas turbine electricity generators, or burned directly in a gas car engine that is 20% efficient at burning natural gas. Yes, electricity does lose 7% in transmission (according to DOE national grid averages) and another 5-10% in charging. But BEV's and PHEV's gain back most of this through regenerative braking. CNG cars cannot benefit from regen. And natural gas loses 5-10% in energy because it needs to be compressed by an electric compressor to become Compressed Natural Gas. CNG is still better than gasoline, but a 35-40 mile range PHEV would be way better, while still offering the ability to refill fast.
