EU backs #fuel economy plans for 2020 and beyond | @GreenCarWebsite #95means95 #emissions

A committee of the European Parliament has voted to approve draft legislation that could see the average fuel economy of cars sold in Europe reach an average of 94mpg by 2025. New targets for 2025 plan that emissions for new cars should reach 68 and 78g/km CO2 in twelve years time although a decision on the exact figure is expected by 2017. The Environment Committee of the European Parliament also voted through a rule for an average of 95g/km CO2 and agreed to cap so-called super credits, which give carmakers generous allowances for the manufacture of electric cars-essentially supporting the production of high emission cars. These emission limits still need to be voted on by the full European Parliament, with intense lobbying from the car industry putting pressure on member states to vote against it.
