The Day After: A Roundup of Coverage and Reactions to Superstorm Sandy

The Today OnEarth headquarters in Manhattatan is closed today and many on the team are without electricity, but this Vermont-based correspondent is lucky to be online (thousands in my county are without power.) Again, this roundup will be brief and focused exclusively on Sandy, which yesterday afternoon stopped being a fun “Frankenstorm” and became a very real and immediate threat to tens of millions of Americans. It’s hard to overstate the severity of Sandy’s impact on the East Coast. As of this morning, there have been 16 confirmed deaths (on top of the 69 fatalities already suffered in the Caribbean ), 7 million people are without power, and insurers are anticipating $10 to $20 billion worth of damages.
