Flying Cockroaches May Be Coming Soon (You Can Thank Climate Change)

As if the hot, sticky weather isn’t disgusting enough for you, how about having to swat away flying cockroaches? Not that they’re any more welcome when they’re just crawling around. For people who are sweltering in New York City, it’s no joke. Louis Sorkin, bug expert at New York’s American Museum of Natural History, has seen cockroaches flying in the museum’s basement. He told DNA Info that heat gives cockroaches more use of their muscles, and with more activity, there’s more flight. According to the Terminix.com Blog , there are more than 3,500 identified species of cockroaches and 69 of them share living space with us in the United States.
