Ask your MP to urge Govt to drop UK #biofuels target and invest in green transport instead

I am writing to you because I am deeply concerned about unsustainable targets for the use of biofuel in fuel. I understand that currently all fuel sold in the UK is blended with significant amounts of biofuel from crops like soy and palm oil and that the Government is considering increasing this amount even further. Research shows that current targets for the use of biofuels increase greenhouse gas emissions rather than reduce them. They also lead to forests being cut down, food prices rising and livelihoods in producer countries being ruined. Already today the UK imports more than 80% of its biofuel demand from overseas. The Government claims biofuels are safe because of safeguards in European law. In reality these 'sustainability criteria' are meaningless as they ignore most of the negative impacts of biofuel targets such as rising food prices and the real effect of biof...
