India Breaks Ground On New Solar Powered Sports Complex ...: A new sports complex under construction in India wi...

Sports centers and stadiums are proving to be breeding grounds for renewable energy sources, and India has just joined those ranks by starting construction on a new solar-powered sports complex. Called the Athletic Ripples project, the complex features different sections each designed to house a different type of sport, and each designed to look like a droplet of water. But more important than the striking design, the building features several different renewable energy sources. The roof of the building is lined with solar panels, while the entrances feature piezoelectric generators that can create energy from the heavy amount of expected foot traffic. Construction is slated to be completed in 2012.
