Should companies report their carbon emissions?

The consultaion will involve asking businesses and investors for their views on the most effective way to improve the reporting of greenhouse gas/carbon emissions by companies. We've been campaigning for years, along with The Co-operative , to make it compulsory for companies to report their carbon emissions, so we're pleased to see the government launch this consultation, and to see specific mandatory reporting options within it. A Deloitte report in November 2010 revealed that only 9% of the companies surveyed reported their carbon emissions in line with Defra guidance. We want to see the introduction of mandatory reporting of corporate greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible, and before the 2012 deadline set in the Climate Change Act.
