Staycations Are Slipping; Will Bike-cations Be the Next Trend?

Remember the staycation ? From a sustainability standpoint, it seemed like such a good idea. Instead of taking a CO2-spewing plane to a far away (and expensive destination) a staycation was all about having a good time right there at home. But a survey of 2,527 U.S. households by marketing and research firms MMGY Global and Harrison Group, reported on in the LA Times , seems to suggest that, penniless or not, Americans are spending more on vacations this year than they did two years ago. Those of us that consider cost and budget before choosing a vacation destination seems to be on the decline (18%), while the group of us dreaming of certain places and then deciding how to get there and pay for it is growing (34%).
