Should supermarkets stock ugly fruit to reduce food waste?

Supermarkets have been criticised for stocking only the best-looking fruit and vegetables, after a major new study found that about a third of food produced annually is lost or wasted. The UN-backed report, published yesterday by the Swedish Institute for Food and Biotechnology, also found that consumers in rich countries waste almost as much food , 222 million tonnes, as the entire net food production of sub-Saharan Africa.
