Firms failing to verify sustainability claims

Less than a quarter of the UK's 350 biggest companies are able to back up their sustainability claims with independent third-party assurance, new research has revealed. The report, published yesterday by business advisory firm Carbon Smart on the day the government released a consultation on mandatory carbon reporting , found that just 79 of the FTSE 350 had undertaken assurance of their sustainability reports, while just 66 had their claims assessed by third parties.
