Great news for waste industry, London, and Green Investment Bank as first investment announced

A 1.4MW anerobic digestion (AD) plant in London has become the first waste project to benefit from the government's Green investment Bank, confirming today that it has completed a multi-million pound funding round. The TEG Group announced that it has secured funding from a series of investors to build a £21m plant that will convert household waste into energy at the new Sustainable Industries Park in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The facility is expected to be completed in 2014 and will be the first of its kind in the capital. It is expected to be able to process 49,000 tonnes a year of food and other organic waste, using AD and so-called in-vessel composting (IVC) technology, generating around 1.4MW, enough to power about 2,000 homes.
