useful overview of what else is in the energy bill besides the Green Deal:

So operators of nuclear power stations are concerned that Government may "impose harsher requirements for disposal" in future and want a guarantee that Government can't require them to do anything without their agreement. Is there any chance they would withhold this agreement until Government provided taxpayers money to pay for the new requirements? And why would a Government impose new requirements? Wouldn't that be most likely if nuclear operators plans turned out to be insufficient or flawed in some way and need to be bolstered? Dealing with its waste has never been the nuclear industries strong point - look at the fiasco of the Thorp reprocessing plant, or the NIREX facility that never was. But now they are so confident they know what they are doing that ...er...they are not prepared to take any risk on it going wrong, and want taxpayers to bail them out of any cock up...
