Researchers for the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found that renewable sources of energy have the potential to meet nearly 80 percent of global energy demand by 2050 and could help stabilize the global climate. Photo: Wikimedia Commons/Jeff Kubina Renewable energy sources like wind and solar could meet nearly 80 percent of the world’s energy demands by 2050 if supported by public policies, according to a new United Nations report. Sourcing much of the global energy supply from renewables could cut business-as-usual projections for mid-century greenhouse gas emissions by approximately a third and could prevent global temperatures from rising more than 36 degrees Fahrenheit, the report also found. The report, which compiles the findings of more than 120 experts, was approved by member countries of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)...
