Not just better for bikes: New York completes its streets via @BurnsMcDonnell

This is the sort of story I'm really glad to see. I read an article a while back here in Berlin, Germany, about a some new theories in traffic management from a guy in the Netherlands- He'd noticed that country roads (speed limit often around 100 km/h) that had their trees removed to cut down on the number of accidents, remained as dangerous, or even more so. Reason- the drivers could _see_ farther, and so had the feeling they could go even faster. This often carries over into the small towns these roads pass through, to the point that the community ends up split by the traffic zooming through. Plus, he found that more signage and traffic lights didn't make traffic safer (or traffic flow more smoothly), because drivers were paying more attention to the signs, than the actually driving environment.
