Energy Bill to receive second reading as Green Deal debate rages on

The Energy Bill designed to usher in the coalition's flagship Green Deal building efficiency scheme will receive its second reading in the House of Commons today, despite an ongoing debate over whether the government's proposals are ambitious enough to deliver the national revamp of domestic and commercial properties that green campaigners insist is necessary. The Green Deal is designed to provide households and businesses with loans that allow them to implement energy efficiency measures without any upfront cost. The repayments will then be made through energy bills and will be covered by the savings that result from the energy efficiency improvements.
