Having just spent a few days on an island known for its warm, beachy summer vacations, and cold, damp shoulder seasons (fall and summer), it became apparent to me that people who live on islands are both adaptive and resourceful. The insular world of living on an island constantly changes and unfolds as water , weather and whim dictate living conditions. While much of the local economy of an island may depend upon the glut of summer people, year-rounder’s know that they need to be practical and imaginative to survive the off-season. Lighting and wind may change from season to season, but one thing remains constant – boats are a lifeline for those who choose to live on islands.
