Bill Gates calls for more research into breakthrough energy technologies

Bill Gates has warned that "cute" technologies, such as individual solar panels, will not meet developing nations' energy demands, arguing that greater spending on clean-tech research and development is necessary to identify "breakthrough" energy technologies. During a discussion at the Wired Business Conference 2011 in New York, the Microsoft chairman said the microgeneration and energy efficiency policies pursued by richer nations would have little impact on global energy challenges.
