Removing environmental protections on #oil #drilling won't change $4 gasoline. Not now, not ever.

Once again we find ourselves amidst $4 per gallon gasoline with the Drill Baby Drill chorus promising that opening all of our coasts to drilling will provide price relief. Instead of taking the time to increase safety standards and environmental protections following the nation’s worst ever oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, drilling advocates in the House of Representatives are moving bills to diminish drilling safeguards below their pre Deepwater Horizon levels. They argue that today’s gas prices are an urgent event that warrants an urgent policy response. While today’s gas prices are a very serious issue, the drilling crowd’s approach is incredibly misguided.
