It turns out your morning cup o' Joe may soon be one of them. Coffee prices are at a 34 year high at 3 per pound, according to CBS Chicago . A drop in supply coupled with an increase in demand is to blame for the price hike. Heavy rains throughout South America are also to blame for the high prices. Prices in local coffee shops are also on the rise. “People don’t really like paying more, but when it comes to something like coffee that’s a necessity in people’s lives, I’ve found that they are more willing than not to go ahead and pay the difference,” David Retzer, assistant manager at Metropolis Coffee Company in Chicago, says.
