California sets fancy new climate goal, makes other states look bad

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) made climate history today, setting the most ambitious climate goal ever seen in North America. And with that, he likely set a new record for the number of ambitious climate and energy goals set by a single state, thus giving other states a lofty goals goal worth striving for. Here’s the news from the LA Times : The governor’s order aims to cut emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Previous goals, which were set during former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s administration, were to reach 1990 levels by 2020, then 80% below that standard by 2050. “With this order, California sets a very high bar for itself and other states and nations, but it’s one that must be reached — for this generation and generations to come,” Brown said in a statement. California is already well on its way to meeting the 2020 goal, and according to this press release...
