Britain's Starving Homeless Turn to the Sikh Community for Food | Care2 Causes

John Davidson is a 55-year-old homeless man living in London, not necessarily a pleasant place to be in the depths of winter. But there’s a bright spot in his cold winter days: he can warm up with a little soup and get a drink from the local Sikh community, which runs a food truck serving anyone who wishes to drop by for some food. For Sikhs, it’s not just about religious charity, though. Cooking meals for the community in a communal kitchen and eating together is a fundamental tenet of their faith, with Sikhs all over the world participating in the preparation of food for friends, neighbors, and community members. For nearly 500 years, the langar or public canteen has been an area where Sikhs serve food to anyone, regardless of class, creed, or other distinctions.
