Their new campaign has pictures of huge red bubbles near UK landmarks, showing how much carbon dioxide could be captured from the experimental Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project they're involved with in Scotland. The thing that struck me about these bubbles though is they're really not very big. For example, in comparison, the emissions from burning the oil and gas Shell drill out of the ground every hour would be contained by a red bubble nearly 400 metres in diameter – around 7 times higher than Nelson's column. Now a Shell press officer might say “hang on, that's a bit unfair, our red bubble is just for this first new project: when CCS takes off, we can capture massive amounts of carbon”.
