Surviving Without Indian Point: Is It Doable?:

A future without the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan, N.Y., may be fine or dire, depending on your point of view. Columbia University Law School’s Center for Climate Change Law gathered a few experts on Thursday night to discuss the pros and cons just as the plant is seeking renewal of its federal license amid strong opposition from New York’s governor, Andrew M. Cuomo, and environmental groups. A video of the event is here . The most pressing question posed by a closing of the plant is whether its energy output could be replaced by renewable sources like solar and wind, efficiency upgrades at plants powered by natural gas, and power transmitted from Canada and upstate New York.
