The End of the Beginning for Social Value | Jonathan Schifferes
There is a concern that the quantification of social value in all these new fields will mean the practice of quality research can’t keep up with the ambition. I am not concerned. At the SROI Network International Conference last month in Berlin, it became clear that one original intention of SROI’s proponents was to change the language of the debate around public services and community work. Those delivering programmes drown in paperwork to monitor endless output targets, and it was to everyone’s benefit to step back and consider whether the ultimate desired outcomes (happy, healthy, meaningful, and rewarding lives) were being achieved. The passing of the Bill marks an official acknowledgement that this language is now mainstream.
