For the first time, the U.S. residential sector beat the commercial sector in new solar PV

Solar power is hot, literally and figuratively. In the first three months of 2014 alone, the U.S. has added 1,330 MW of solar PV. This is 79% (!) more than what was added in the first quarter of the previous year. To put things in perspective, this new solar capacity represents 74% of new electricity generation capacity in the U.S. during the period, followed by wind power at 20% and natural gas at 4%. © SEIA While utilities installed the most MW of solar, the #2 was interesting: It's the first time that residential beats commercial (aka non-residential) solar PV, with 232 MW for residential and 225 MW for commercial. This is a growth of 38% over Q1 2013 for residential PV, and a decline of 12% from Q1 2013 for commercial. © SEIA The total, cumulative operating solar PV capacity of the U.S. now stands at 13,395 MW, with 482,000 individual systems on-line as of the end of Q...
