Channukah: The Energy Efficiency Holiday?

Channukah. Hannukah. However you spell it, we are now half-way through a holiday commemorating one day's worth of oil lasting for eight days. It is a pretty minor holiday in the Jewish calendar, but perhaps we should be making a bigger deal about it; afterall with announcements like this one coming from Kansas City Public Power & Light today as well as the successful GO60 campaign , it seems pretty contemporary, right? Like Christmas, this is a holiday that, for some, has boiled down to gifts these days. So, as the Festival of Lights kicks off, I figured a quick wish list of efficiency-related stuff was in order: Smooth rollout of the tighter fuel standards for autos rolled out this year by the Obama administration. An end to the pipeline pushing debacle in DC around Keystone XL which seems like the opposite spirit of Channukah---there’s little efficiency to tar sands oil ...
