How do Red Pandas celebrate snow days?
A pair of red pandas wrestle during snow flurries at the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio. Slightly larger than a domestic house cat, these adorable arboreal creatures are native to southwestern China and the Eastern Himalayas, where snow and freezing temperatures are no big deal. * * * Photo: Marc Dumont/Flickr Despite subsisting on a bamboo-based diet much like its giant panda namesake, the two species are not closely related. Red pandas are actually the only living species in the Ailuridae family, which places them in the superfamily Musteloidea along with weasels, raccoons, skunks and more. * * * Photo: Marc Dumont/Flickr * * * Catie Leary is a photo editor at Mother Nature Network.
