Tipping Barrels Surf Film Highlights Threats to B.C.'s Great Bear Rainforest

The Great Bear Rainforest is a 25,000 square mile natural jewel that stretches from mid way up British Columbia's coast to the Alaska border, encompassing some of the most pristine (semi) protected temperate rain forest in the world. It is home to thousand year-old cedars, 90 metre spruce trees, wolves, salmon, grizzly bears, cougars and the white Kermode (Spirit) bear. Jaymi has written about the role of conservation photography in highlighting the threats to the forest from Enbridge's proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline. Although the decision on the pipeline has been delayed until 2013 , the pipes would result in oil tankers traveling through the marine channels of the area as they load up with crude oil from Alberta's oil sands to ship to overseas markets.
