Are Dead People Our Next Renewable Energy Source? | Care2 Causes

There is a misunderstanding which makes this subject appear to much more morbid than it actually is. Energy is not being generated from corpses, but rather from reclaiming heat from the burners which are necessary to generate sufficient heat to cremate the corpses. In a broadly similar application, power plants utilizing gas turbine generators (essentially giant jet engines) will often have water tube boilers installed in their exhaust streams in order to use the waste heat in the exhaust stream. If memory serves, this was pioneered by the Royal Navy in COSAG ship power plants. In principle, suggesting that the energy is being produced from the corpses themselves is like saying that regenerative braking in a hybrid automobile is cannibalizing the car rather than reclaiming waste energy.
