More specifically, there are 17,198 "solar employment sites", located in every state, employing a total of 100,237 people as of August 2011. While the economy-wide job growth rate is expected to be just 0.7% since the last Solar Jobs Census was conducted in 2010, the report shows that solar power jobs grew at 6.8% -- something which the report compares to the 2% loss of jobs in the fossil fuel industry. Solar power companies anticipate expanding their workforce by 24% over the next year on the whole, with roughly half of solar power companies saying they expect to add workers in the remainder of 2011 and in 2012. On a state-by-state basis, California's solar power industry employs the greatest number of people (25,575), followed by Colorado, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, Texas, Oregon, and Massachusetts.
