Feeling inspired? New York City is holding a naming contest for a soon-to-be-unveiled green space in Queens. New York City Department of City Planning The transformed parking lot at Queens Plaza in Long Island City. The no-name project is a former parking lot at the eastern end of Queens Plaza in Long Island City that will soon become a sustainably designed, 1.5-acre oasis with wetlands, plantings, millstones and artist-designed benches. “Everyone knows that New Yorkers are full of opinions, so who better to ask to come up with a great name for the greatest new open space in Queens?” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said in a statement on Thursday announcing the contest.
