Study: Tackling Water Pollution Could Create 1.9 Million Jobs

The cost would be $188.4 billion. But it's not an environmental regulation, but an investment in infrastructure that this group is recommending. Across the U.S., aging water and sewer systems are in need of repair and upgrades. Many of them built decades ago and some as long as a century ago, but federal and state programs to invest in water and sewer infrastructure, usually by giving local communities low- or no-cost loans, have expired or been cut back over the years.
