IF11: Robert Shelton Cracks the Code for Innovation

"The problem we face today is rampant incrementalism," innovation expert Robert Shelton told attendees at the GreenBiz Innovation Forum today. "[That's] not the breakthrough innovation we need to drive growth and truth be told that's just not sufficient." Shelton, who heads the Growth and Innovation practice at PwC's PRTM Management Consulting , kicked off the "One Great Idea" series at IF11 -- and he offered not just one but several ideas on how companies can re-invent the way they innovate. The first step is to recognize the different types of innovation, he said. There's incremental, breakthrough and radical innovation. Breakthrough innovation -- the ideas and concepts that can change the way we work and live -- is the most desired but the hardest to achieve.
