"I'm a big recycler. I don't have any garbage — everything is recycled or composted," says Dylan McDermott , star of FX's scary new series "American Horror Story," premiering Oct. 5. True to its title, the drama from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk ("Glee," "Nip/Tuck") is a trippy take on the haunted house genre, focusing on McDermott's Ben Harmon, a psychiatrist who moves his family to an old Victorian mansion in Los Angeles that came cheap because a murder/suicide occurred in the basement. They arrive with emotional baggage: Ben had an affair with a student, and his wife, Vivien (Connie Britton ), caught him in the act and can't get over the double pain of that and a miscarriage. Their misfit teen daughter (Taissa Farmiga) is a cutter.
