Subsidies for Oil, Gas and Nuclear vs. Renewables

Perhaps it’s time we rethought what we mean by ‘subsidies’. Rather than an ongoing co-payment in order to make energy cheaper at the meter/pump how about we look at subsidies as investments in future energy? In the last century we invested a lot of money in oil, gas and nuclear. Just look at the “Historical” graph. We invested in oil and gas because those were the technologies we understood and had developed enough to make them work for us. We invested in nuclear because it was suppose to give us electricity “too cheap to meter”. Time has shown us that oil and gas bring additional costs to the table. We’re spending money for fossil fuel caused heath and environmental damage and fighting wars to keep the oil flowing.
