Dying Forests: How Bad Is It, Really?

The son of Charles David Keeling, who had discovered the trend of rising carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the 1950s, Ralph Keeling had become a famous climate scientist in his own right. We had spent two days on the campus of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography talking about his father’s legacy and his own work, and I finally asked him a simple question: How did his deep knowledge of climate change affect his life? He started by assuring me there was nothing paralyzing about it — he managed to get up and drive to work in the morning like the rest of us.
