CANADA: Will immigrants save the French language in Quebec, or hasten its demise?
Sunday October 2, 2011, 6:22 am I am of French Canadian derivation and appreciate the fact that Quebec has maintained a French identity. From my time in Ottawa I found some of the anglophiles to be haughty and intolerant. Canada chose to have a bi-lingual tradition and I hope it prevails. I have been away from the language for so long that I would have a hard time in Quwbec. However, the good people there would surely be more tolearnt of my efforts to spaek French than the people I met in France who had no use for my "dirty French" accent! A solution for those who don't like bilingualism is to allow Quebec independence. send green star | flag as inappropriate Why is this inappropriate?
