The @CBI_CC, @Policy_Exchange and the Aldersgate Group all favour mandatory carbon reporting. So why the delay?

Two of the UK's leading think tanks have stepped up calls for the government to introduce mandatory carbon reporting rules for large companies, after new research challenged the government's cost estimates for imposing such rules and demonstrated that significant business benefits would result from a standardised emissions reporting regime. The government recently completed a consultation on a series of carbon reporting options, ranging from the continuation of the current voluntary approach to emissions reporting, through to a mandatory requirement on all large firms forcing them to report annually on their carbon emissions. A final decision is expected in the autumn and new rules could be introduced as early as next April.
