Wilderness Society #conservation Wilderness Society on passing of conservation giant Cecil Andrus

Cecil Andrus, former Idaho Governor and Secretary of the Interior has passed away. The following statement is from Wilderness Society president, Jamie Williams: “America has lost a visionary leader in the fight to protect wilderness. Cecil Andrus’ work as Secretary of the Interior under President Carter led to the protection of some of our nation’s preeminent wild places, including Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Idaho’s Frank Church- River of No Return Wilderness. “Andrus’ pragmatism and statesmanship brought people together around conservation at a time when America was waking up to the ravages of industrial development across the country. He stands with leaders like Morris and Stewart Udall and Olaus and Mardy Murie—a generation of leaders who built the foundation for America’s conservation legacy on which today we all stand.
