Garment-Factory Fire in Bangladesh Kills 112 Because of Unaddressed Safety Issues
Although the fire started at 7 pm when many of the sweat shop workers had already gone home for the day, the remaining over timers fell victim, and were trapped in the building. Over 111 workers either jumped to their deaths in attempts to escape the blaze, or were caught and burned beyond recognition. The task of identifying the burned victims could take authorities several weeks. Many of the fire victims sustained serious injuries, and overflowed the local hospitals in Dhaka.
