400,000 Plastic Sandals Upcycled Into Colorful Oceanside Sculptures

are one of the most beautiful parts of nature, they’re also the place we’re most likely to come face to face with the ugly side of overconsumption. Beaches around the world are littered with plastic waste –everything from plastic bags to flip flops. One company has spent years fishing these cast-off shoes from the surf, not to transport them to the landfill, but to create something new and wonderful from what was once trash. Ocean Sole , a flip flop recycling company based in Nairobi, Kenya, has collected over 400,000 plastic sandals from the shores of the Indian Ocean and turned them into sculptures, household items, fashion accessories, gifts, stationary, and more.
