Australia launches an online "dress register" to showcase historic garments, including the only intact convict shirt!
Talk about oldies but goodies. Australia's Powerhouse Museum has just launched the nation's first "dress register," a collaborative online database for historic clothing and the personal stories behind them. Inaugurated by Daryl Maguire, MP for Wagga Wagga, in August, the Australian Dress Register documents "significant and well-provenanced" men's, women's, and children's clothes and accessories within living memory, according to the state-funded Sydney museum. By providing free and open access to museums, private collectors, owners, and members of the public across the country, the register is able to extend its reach as a resource on Australia's sartorial past.
