The Better Cotton Initiative is beneficial for both local cotton farmers and the end consumer due to the commitment to sell cotton products for an affordable price. With the start of the Better Cotton Initiative in 2005, an initial 20 weeks of field schooling were carried out with 450 cotton farmers participating worldwide. A number unimaginable in IKEA’s 2013 outreach: More than 100,000 cotton farmers have been involved in producing the best cotton while utilizing higher production standards that reduce water consumption, pesticides, fertilizers as well as chemicals in addition to still being profitable for both the farmers and the company.
